Gunter High School Student Helps Grant a Wish

by Heather Reynolds

We recently received a note from one of our readers about an amazing Gunter High School student that was featured in our Senior Spotlight section a few months ago. These are the types of emails and messages that bring us back to our roots and remind us what an amazing community Gunter, Texas really is…and how the Tigers are always willing to step up and give back.

Leigh Moore, a Gunter resident, has been a volunteer for Make a Wish North TX for five years. She had an upcoming wish reveal for a 6-year-old little girl that was going to Disney. Moore inquired on a Gunter Moms Facebook page and requested assistance from any of the amazing princesses that had participated in the Dining With Disney event at GHS in September. Enter Keely Ward. This GHS Senior stepped up to give of her time and talent on a Sunday afternoon. Moore said, “Knowing that she volunteered from the kindness of her own hear, I expected a sweet kid. But she exceeded my expectations.”

The day of the Make a Wish Reveal, Keely arrived and began to prepare for her part in the wish grant. They explained that the Wish was a surprise…and that she got to tell the 6-year-old that she was going to Disney in 5 days! Keely handled it amazingly and with such sweetness and heart. Tears of happiness were shed that day for this little 6-year-old girl who has only been in America for a very short time. She has learned English and all that we have to offer her here. Her wish grant is the cumulative reward for this and recent medical hurdles…and Keely was the perfect addition to the celebration.

Thank you to Leigh Moore for reaching out to us to share your story. Thank you to Keely Ward for stepping up and giving your time for a precious child that you didn’t know. Thank you to Tim and Janelle Ward for raising such a sweet, kind and generous young lady. And thank you Gunter ISD for encouraging our students and challenging them to achieve the highest character standards and ethics. We are so proud to be a part of the Gunter community!
